Calima Lake
Calima Lake, is located in a region of Valle del Cauca called Darién. It limits to the North with the Department of Choco, at South it limits with Restrepo and Dagua towns, to the West it limits with the city of Buenaventura and to the East it limits with Yotoco and Riofrio Towns. The population is 18.127, its elevation is of 1,485 meters above the sea level. The total area extends 1,154 Km2, and its temperature varies from 16°C to 20°C. Calima lake its a recognized tourism destiny for all those who wants to experience aquatic sports such as kiteboarding, another reason for visiting this place is to enjoy the nature and get away from a busy and chaotic city environment.
There are several places where you can stay, you could either, camp, rent a cabin or check-in on an hotel. When I took this trip, we were a party of 6 people, and one of the members of our party owned a place where they have several cabins to rent, so luckily we didn´t have to pay for the Cabin. Our reason for goiing to Calima Lake, was not for the aqquatic sports nor the sightseeing, we were a Metalcore Band and we wanted to take this trip, to write and create our own songs, so we needed a place were we could make all the noise we wanted, and to look for inspiration within all the fresh air you encounter in Calima Lake.
The cabin were we stayed was a two story building made of wood and bricks, it was very big and it was located just in front of the Lake, so it had a great view. On the first floor it had a kitchen and 2 living rooms and on the second floor were all the bedrooms.
Our free-time activities were not the common activities you find here at Calima Lake, you can board a fast boat, skydive, or ride a fast inflatable giant banana. As we were young and stupid and not carrying to much money we just bought some shaving cream and made a shaving cream war, the result.... well an image says more than a thousand words.
For me, it was an unforgettable experience, with people I love and a bonding link that made us one, that it was the music. It was not until today that I wrote this that I noticed that the Calima Lake environment is magical, time goes by and you don´t even realize it´s time to go back. Maybe on the future I´ll go back and experience all the other activities this place has to offer.
